KP govt focusing on technical education: CM

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Monday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government was focusing on providing quality technical education to the youth to equip them with skills. He said considerable progress had been made in establishment of Technical and Air Universities in Azakhel in Nowshera. A handout said he was talking to various delegations from his constituency in Nowshera that called on him at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Peshawar. Pervez Khattak assured that new avenues for employment would be explored. He said his government was striving to generate cheap electricity for domestic and industrial consumers. The chief minister said KP government was creating conducive environment for local and foreign investment apart from boosting economic relations with the neighbouring countries.

NA salutes Malala, calls for girls’ education

The National Assembly (NA) on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution congratulating Malala Yousafzai on getting the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014. The resolution, moved by Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, praised her for her struggle and sacrifice for the cause of girls’ education.The resolution stated: “This House congratulates Malala Yousafzai, the daughter of Pakistan, for winning laurels for the country and the nation. This House salutes her and appreciates her services for education of girls and the courage she manifested.” It said Malala’s voice against illiteracy and extremism symbolises courage, strength and hope for children of Pakistan and the world at large.The House expressed its commitment for the fundamental rights of education enshrined in the Constitution and resolved to pursue policies and programmes at all levels to ensure an enabling environment for education of children in the country.

Public-private campuses of varsities on the cards

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is planning to introduce public-private partnership (P3) campuses taking a plea that the government alone is unable to provide space for ever-growing population of students. The P3 campus of a university will be opened and operated in partnership with private societies, trusts or foundations after fulfilling a certain criteria. The HEC Accreditation & Attestation (A&A) Division announced that the commission had prepared guidelines that were circulated to vice chancellors and rectors of all public universities for their comments within 15 days on opening of P3 campuses. It said the guidelines never existed earlier at the commission. Sources in the commission claimed the guidelines were circulated without presenting them to the HEC Vice Chancellors Committee.

RCCI Trust to set up school, hospital

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Syed Asad Mashadi has said that RCCI Trust will establish a school and a hospital initially to provide free health and education facilities for poor. RCCI Trust is a collective step of the business community of region to provide basic amenities of life to have-nots, he said while addressing the traders and industrialists in a meeting held here at the Chamber on Monday. Compulsory Education Ordinance likely this week’

A REPORT by the Standing Committee on Education about the Punjab Free and Compulsory Education Ordinance was laid before the house by Engr Qamar-ul-Islam Raja, Chairman Standing Committee on Education, and is likely to be passed by the house in the ongoing week. Talking to The News, Engr Raja said the committee had made many amendments in the Punjab Free and Compulsory Education Ordinance 2014 after extensive deliberations in a number of meetings and it was most likely to be passed by the house as recommended by the committee. Raja also told the media that three more bills regarding education have been introduced and handed over to the committee for deliberations, which include Punjab Curriculum and Text book Board Ordinance 2014, Merger of Punjab Curriculum Authority and Punjab Textbook Board, the much-awaited Punjab Higher Education Commission Ordinance 2014, and the NUR International University Lahore Ordinance 2014.

USAID school in Larkana opens

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an environment friendly school in Saido Dero village near here on Monday. The event marked the official start of the construction of 13 such schools in Larkana under the USAID`s Sindh Basic E ducation Programme (SBE P). Speaking at the ceremony, US Consul General Brian Heath said USAID and Sindh government were partnering together for the cause of education and the agency was making an investment of $155 million in the SBEP. Later, the consul general, USAID regional director Leon S. Waskin and MNA Faryal Talpur planted a sapling in the school. The USAID deputy mission director Cathy Moore, secretary of education Dr Fazlullah Pechuho and other officials, teachers and students attended the ceremony.

Malala asks Kainat Soomro to pursue her education

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has asked a rape survivor living in Karachi to pursue her education and also promised to pay for her home tutoring. Kainat Soomro, 21, who lives in a run-down neighbourhood of Karachi, has been fighting her case in the courts for the last seven years.

Soomro said she was surprised to receive Malala’s phone call on Saturday. “She told me I was a brave girl for having the will to fight on despite receiving death threats.” Soomro was gang raped in her village in Dadu in 2007. When she pursued her case in the courts, one of her brothers was killed and a fake case was launched against her other brother, her family alleges.

Secretary paints grim picture of Sindh Education dept

Secretary Education Sindh, Dr Fazlullah Pechuho spoke to the media on Monday on the agonising situation of the education department in the province. He informed that 5,725 schools in the province are closed, 40 percent of all teachers in the province are ghost teachers while 30,000 of all teachers are fake appointees. He said that teachers’ unions and politicians create obstacles in bringing reforms in education and also when action is taken against ghost teachers. He made it clear that he would prefer to resign but would not compromise on education reforms.

30 Teaching and Non-Teaching employees restored by Education Department

Petitioner declared in his application that at District Naushehroferoz 30 employees of grade 9 to 16 were suspended. But Sindh High Court Bench comprising of Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Aziz Ul Rahman had a case hearing and issued orders to restore those suspended Teachers and issuing notice to Chief Secretary and others for explanation on 23rd October.

Protest for School Building

Shaheen Development Organization organized protest for the building of High School Kubo Saeed Khan District Qamber-Shahdadkot. 70% Children don’t attend schools: NCF Report

Social Organization NCF, Bulri Shah Karim, District Tando Muhammad Khan has reported that 70% students are deprived of school education. 35% children are not allowed by their parents to go to school and in the remote villages from 12% to 15% students attend schools. Parents send children to earn money.

The building of Primary Masjid School Islam Kot, District Mithi is in decaying position. Due to that more than 125 students do not attend school. It is reported that it was built in 1983 and since then it is not repaired. D.O Education has issued orders to transfer students to main school.

13 Schools will be started in Larkana District with the cooperation of U.S.A Government. USAID will start 13 schools at village Seedu Dero in Larkana District and these schools will be running through SBEP. This project was initiated by Senior Minister Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Member National Assembly Ms Faryal Tallpur by planting a plant in the premises of the school. 7 year old Mr Zulqar nain was tortured by teacher Mr Abdul Hakeed Bhurghari in a school. Parents took child to media to show them signs of tortures and protested against the inhuman act of a teacher. They demanded form the district education officer to take action against the teacher.

5775 schools are closed and 40 thousands teachers are getting salaries without teaching in Sindh

Secretary Education Mr Fazulallah Pechehu conducted press conference in Press Club Larkana said that 5775 schools are closed and out of 90,000 teachers, 40 thousand teachers are getting their salaries without going to schools. He admitted that Sindh is suffering because of the lack of merits in appointments. But now, these teachers would not be forgotten and all those who are involved into such illegal actions would be penalized and bring to the court for justice. He further said that in the last flood schools had been ruined which are we are repairing with the support of USAID.  In addition to this community mp0biliztion project is also being started soon.
