Not Free At All
Profiling the costs parents incur on education

The promise of a free and compulsory education for all children between the ages of 5 and 16 is enshrined in Article 25-A of the Constitution.

Our new study titled ‘Not free at all – profiling the costs parents incur on education’ seeks to illustrate the economic dimensions of educating a child in Pakistan and reminds decision-makers that it is their constitutional obligation to bear the cost of schooling.

The study was informed by the PSLM survey and a bespoke survey on the cost of education across eight cities - Lahore and Jhang in the Punjab, Karachi and Sukkur in Sindh, Peshawar and Haripur in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Quetta and Sibi in Balochistan - conducted by The Researchers, an Islamabad based research organisation.
