Dr. Faisal Bari’s recent op-ed in Dawn discusses the tragedy of substandard and low quality education in Pakistan. He cites the example of a man, Akbar Khan, that he has known for over two decades and an acquaintance of his who is currently a teacher in a low-cost public school. Akbar Khan has worked tirelessly to educate his children, hoping to break the cycle of poverty his family is trapped in. Yet his educated child does not have the skills needed to be productively employed. If there is one thing you read this weekend, read this superb op-ed by Dr. Faisal Bari.
