Peshawar University Teachers Association boycotts classes on UoP campus

Peshawar: The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) on Monday boycotted classes to press the government for acceptance of their demands. According to PUTA office-bearers, a complete class boycott was observed in all the departments of the University of Peshawar (UoP) and its constituent colleges like the College of Home Economics, Jinnah College for Women and University College for Boys. Meanwhile, a meeting of the executive committee of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) was also held. PUTA President Dr. Jamil Ahmad Chitrali and General Secretary Dr Muhammad Iqbal also attended the meeting. The FAPUASA decided to join the PUTA strike to show solidarity with UoP teachers, said a press release issued from PUTA office. “If the government fails to address the problems raised by PUTA, the teachers of all public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will boycott classes from Monday October 3,” the release said.

JCW girls clinch top positions in UoP BA, B.SC exams

Peshawar: The Jinnah College for women stood out once again by claiming almost all the top positions in Bachelor examinations. A total of 33,400 candidates appeared in the B. A, B. Sc examination, and 10,100 were declared as successful with a passing percentage of 30. As always, all the three top positions in B.A, B.Sc went to them. Ms. Sara Nihar, daughter of Nihar Muhammad of the Jinnah College for Women (JCW) got the overall first position. She also stood first in B. Sc. She was followed by her college mates Ms. Shahzadi Zohra Gul and Ms. Nazish Naeem. In the Bachelor of Arts category Ms. HiraFarooq daughter of Umar Farooq of JCW secured first position, followed by Ms. Ghania Mubarak of Army Burn Hall College Abbotabad who took second position while Ms. Ayesha Jaffar D/O Jaffar Ali of JCW secured third position in the Bachelor of Arts category.

Education activities affected due to lack of teaching staff and basic facilities

District Rahim Yar Khan: Ilyas Ahmed Teacher stated that educational activities are being affected due to lack of teaching staff and basic facilities. There is only one teacher for 235 students. 60 girl students are also studying in schools without any female teacher. The school building is very poor condition. District Rahim Yar Khan: A new education session has started on 15 August, 2016 but 2nd year (F.Sc) classes in Government Boys College Fateh Pur could not be started.
