Students protest against fee raise

Students of various colleges and universities held a rally here on Thursday to record their protest against the increasing tuition and admission fee in different educational institutions of the province. The protesters were led by Insaf Student Federation`s provincial president Suhail Afridi and other office-bearers. They marched from the press club to civil secretariat and then held a rally outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly building.

Bomb scare: Schools closed till March 1

Following the directives of the district administration and police, All Swat Private Schools Management Association (ASPSMA) has decided to close all schools down in Matta tehsil until March 1.

Private medical colleges told to arrange house job for their graduates

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has asked principals of all private medical colleges to provide house job to their graduates in their respective teaching hospitals to reduce burden on government hospitals. Besides, it has also increased the monthly stipend of trainee medical officers from Rs24,000 to Rs49,124 and that of house officers from Rs24,000 to Rs27,291 with effect from December 2014. The development comes on the directives of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, says a handout issued here.

Prep class students to pay fee from March 1

Against the spirit of Article 25-A, which guarantees free education for all school students, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has decided to charge a fee from the students of pre-school (Prep) in the urban areas of the federal capital. According to officials, the directorate took the decision to meet day-to-day affairs of pre-school sections of 70 schools which never received any significant funding.

Approval to the programme of giving tablets to teachers 

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting on Thursday which gave approval to various important measures for the promotion of information technology in the province. 
The meeting decided in principle to launch “Khadim-e-Punjab Metro Wi-Fi Network Programme” in the province while also granted approval to the programme of giving tablets to teachers of mathematics and science subjects from class-VI to X. Students of class V to VIII of public sector schools obtaining prominent positions in annual examination will also be given tablets.

Matric exams from March 2

All the boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab are simultaneously holding the secondary school (annual) examination for 2015 from March 2.

Teams gathering data on Afghan nationals and seminaries in Gujrat

Two teams of the Punjab government have launched separate drives in the district to collect data on Afghan nationals residing here and for scrutiny of religious seminaries.
Official sources told Dawn that a technical team of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had been working closely with the police and other law enforcement agencies in connection with a survey aimed at counting all the Afghan refugees settled in the district, regardless ofthe fact whether they possessed residential documents (refugee cards) or they were without such papers.

Redefining education

Education appears to have assumed a larger place in our discourse onnational issues and moved up on the priority list, judging by news stories concerning educational issues reported in the national press. According to a survey conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and released by the organisation Alif Ailaan in Pakistan, the average number of stories on education in 13 newspapers had grown from 29 per week before 2013 to 41 by the end of 2014. Seven English and six Urdu language newspapers were monitored.

Curricular concerns

HE curricula taught in Pakistani schools, especially over the last few decades, have been criticised for being exclusivist and helping promote rigidity and intolerance in society. In fact, it would not be wrong to point out that more than the material taught in many madressahs, it is the content of public school textbooks that has contributed largely to the acceptance or condoning of terrorism by a large section of the population. Lahore: The Punjab Education Ministry has decided to pass out all the Class 5 students due to mismanagement in the examinations of Class 5 by Punjab Education Commission. Digital Books For Class 6 To 10th

Lahore: The Punjab Government has launched a “Khadam-e-Aala Wi-Fi Metro Programme”. Extra charges in Students’ Identity Cards

District Mirpurkhas: The School management of Government Girls and Boys School Tando Jan Muhammad has increased illegal extra charges for students Identity Cards. The Students have to pay 60 to 80 rupees for a card, whereas the actual price of that card is 10 to 20 rupees.

Deputy Director Schools visited Schools of Mehar and K.N Shah

District Dadu: The Deputy Director Schools Hyderabad Mr. Nazir Ahmed Chandio visited the different Schools of Mehar and Taluka Khairpur Nathan Shah and found 7 Schools completely closed. During his visit the schools including Government Girls and Boys School Sawal Kartio, Malook Kalhoro, Banho Sodhar, Ismail Brohi and other were closed; whereas Head Mistress Girls School Bero Gadhi was absent and four other female Teachers of Kazi Arif were absent. The visit report is sent to Secretary Education.
