Teachers brave rough terrain to reach schools

The rough terrain of certain districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) is daunting to traverse on at the best of times. However, women in Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Kohistan, Bunner, Shangla, Torghar, Lakki Marwat, Hangu and Swat have to travel up to eight kilometres along these perilous routes on a daily basis as their teaching careers depend on it. Some areas even lack transport facilities and women have to reach their respective schools on foot. Alif Ailaan Regional Coordinator Umar Orakzai tells The Express Tribune around 33% of the teachers in the mentioned districts perform their duties at schools far away from home.

Threat averted: IED defused at govt primary school

An improvised explosive device weighing four kilogrammes was successfully defused by the bomb disposal unit (BDU) near the main gate of Government Primary School, Babu Tang, Hangu on Friday.

Hangu BDU in charge Jafar Khan told journalists they received a call by a schoolteacher informing them about a suspicious device placed outside the building’s gate.

Major chunk of enrolment fund being spent on schools’ security

The provincial government has not released funds specifically meant for adopting security measures at schools despite passing of over two months of the Army Public School attack, according to sources. However, they said that a major chunk of the Rs2.557 billion fund, meant for enrolling out-of-school children and providing missing facilities to the government schools, was being utilised on security measures instead of the planned purpose

Afghan students seek increase in admission quota

NGO to help promote literacy in Kohistan

A non-governmental organisation has announced to provide parents and teachers with a platform to promote education, particularly of girls, in the remote and backward Kohistan district of Hazara division. This was stated by Hafizur Rehman, coordinator ofAlif Ailaan, an education project, while speaking at a seminar in Kohistan on Friday.“It is unfortunate that neither parents nor teachers are sincere in promoting education, resultantly people of the district are deprived of their basic rights and prosperity,” said Mr Rehman.

FDE’s daily-wage employees wait for salaries enters seventh month

Sources at the FDE said that the financial wing at the FDE has the necessary funds to pay daily-wage employees but has been purposely delaying payment. Student set to move court against ‘injustice’

A student of BBA at Iqra University has decided to approach the court for seeking the compensation amount of Rs 2.5 million from the university management for wasting his time and money in the name of studies. A student named Asfand Yar Khan, son of M Mukhtar Khan, claims that the university management expelled him for unjustified reason despite paying the hefty amount of fee of four-year long course for the last three years saying that he was admitted violating admission criterion. According to information, the university management allowed admission to a student who was earlier not fulfilling the criteria.

HEC scholarships

Schools warned against smacking

PUNJAB Education Foundation has warned the schools partnering under foundation assisted school programme to refrain from indulging in any act of corporal punishment as it is strictly banned in light of the instructions of the Punjab government. Govt set to promote higher edu: PEF chief

Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam, the chairman of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) as well as standing committee on education, has said that a state-of-the-art academic block would be constructed in University of Engineering Taxila (UET).

Bomb planted outside school defused

A bomb planted outside a primary school in Babu Tang area of Orakzai Agency here was safely defused on Friday. How’s the weather?: Sindh govt to include climate change in education syllabus, promises Khuhro
It may be common knowledge that climate change is taking place with severe consequences but there is surprisingly little mention of it in our textbooks. Sindh Education Minister Nisar Khuhro admitted to this flaw in the curriculum as he spoke at the launch of ‘Youth for Climate Change’ initiative on Friday. The event was organised by the non-governmental organisation Centre for Social Change (CSC), in collaboration with Oxfam. A group of 10 students, who will lead the initiative, took an oath on the occasion and promised to spread awareness of environmental issues.

A number of them were incapable of relating basic concepts to real life. Teachers announced to close the schools

District Naushehro Feroz: The roof pieces of Primary School village Khalil Ul Allah Dahri fallen on the students and a student got injured. He was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. Villagers protested and said that they had visited D.E.O and E.D.O offices many times, but they did not pay any attention on the building. They have demanded from higher authorities to take notice.

Four Percent Education Budget should be extended for better results

Karachi: Senior Education Minister Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while addressing to media declared that Education results are not up to mark; it must be upgraded and promoted by extending 4% Education Budget. He said Education is affected due to overtake and involvement of Army in Politics; five years plan is formed that must be ensured in Education collectively. He added that Girls are being supported to take part in Education and for that Government has started Scholarship Program for them. Further he briefed that according to Private Schools Policy of admitting 3 years child in school; Government Schools will be having that policy to admit 3 years child in Government School. He also told that Teachers should poly vital role in promoting Education and number of Teachers would be extended.
