18 state-run Charsadda schools operating without boundary walls

Despite tall claims of the provincial government, several state-run schools in the district are still without any boundary walls even one month after the gruesome attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar. After the Army Public School tragedy that claimed lives of 150 schoolchildren and other staff members and left other more than 100 injured, the government chalked out a security plan to prevent such incidents in future.

Peshawar schools start getting arms licenses

The district administration has started issuing licenses of non-prohibited bore weapons to the educational institutions. “The process of getting license of non-prohibited bore weapons can be completed easily,” Deputy Commissioner Zahirul Islam told Dawn. When asked how many licenses could be issued to a school, he said that he would issue even 10 licenses to the administration of a school if it required the same number of licences for its security guards.

111 Brigade takes over security of cantt schools

111 Brigade has taken over charge of security of all the schools operating in Rawalpindi Cantt. Security of every school has been declared top priority. On the other hand the prices of barbed wire, metal detectors and CCTV cameras which are used in security arrangements have been increased manifold. The barbed wire was available at the cost of Rs 80 to 150 per kilo ahead of Peshawar tragedy which is now being sold at the Rs 450 kilo.

The Lahore police established a control room for educational institutions on Monday. Quick buck: Private schools profiting from security threats?

Lack of government control and the alleged connivance of the Education Department have allowed private schools to unilaterally increase fees on the pretext of ‘security arrangements’.

In recent days, around 3,000 private schools in Rawalpindi District have hiked up fees by 20 to 30 per cent.
