Fata Varsity not tribal students-specific: VC

The Fata University established in Darra Adamkhel, the Frontier Region of Kohat, would offer admissions on the basis of open merit, said Vice-Chancellor Dr Tahir. Pakistan’s education spending lowest in South Asia

Despite an increase in the 2015-16 education budget Pakistan’s current expenditure on education is the lowest in South Asia. “Pakistan has a literacy rate of 58pc, which has improved from 35pc in 1990-91, but still way behind the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) target of 88pc, which was to be achieved by the end of 2015,” a report launched on Wednesday stated.

School teacher kidnapped

 A school teacher was kidnapped from his home near Government Postgraduate College Asghar Mall, the police said on Wednesday. The 32-year-old school teacher, the son of a local prayer leader, was having a meal at his home last Thursday when the doorbell rang, which was answered by a young girl. The unidentified visitor asked for the schoolteacher and said he wanted to meet him, according to the police.

23.6 million Children deprived of Education

As many as 23.6 million children in Pakistan are deprived of education due to the low educational budget. Institute of Social and Policy Sciences has issued its report in which it states that Sindh has spent the least in education whereas KP has invested the most in education.

Fata students organization protest against corruption

Peshawar: The FATA Students Organization staged a protest demonstration in Peshawar in favor of their demands. The protesting students blocked the road in front of the Governor House for some time and chanted slogans against the federal government and FATA Development Authority (FDA). The students alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor had authorized two-year medical course for the students of the tribal areas but the FDA is providing only one-year course which is unjust. Government invests 28% of budget on education: Atif Khan

Kohat: The Education Minister of Khyber Paktunkhuwa Atif Khan has announced to build more Female cadet colleges in the suitable areas of the province. He said that PTI Provincial government first priority is education instead of making new buildings and show pieces that’s why Khyber Paktunkhuwa government is investing 28% of the budget on education, which is more than other provinces. Students protest against privatization of school

Peshawar: The Students and staff of the Auqaf Model School Tangi took out a protest rally, against privatization of the school. Led by Yasmeen Begum, the school principal, and Nusrat Ghulam, the protesters carrying banners and cards gathered at Farooq Azam Chowk and chanted slogans against the provincial government for privatizing the school. Speaking on the occasion, they said privatization of the school would deprive children of acquiring quality education. “Poor people cannot afford to send their kids to private schools,” Yasmeen Begum said, adding that it was an injustice and would add to the miseries of the poor people. She said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan had criticized the federal government for privatizing the Pakistan International Airlines and others institutions while his own provincial government in the province was going to deprive 500 kids of the poor people from education. They asked the provincial government to withdraw the notification or else a protest campaign would be launched. They demanded from the government to reverse the decision, or they would stage a sit-in outside the Chief Minister House in Peshawar.

11 lac students affected due to closure of schools

Peshawar: The teachers in Khyber Agency are on strike to protest what they called the failure of Fata Secretariat to implement their up gradation plan. The strike also affected the fresh enrolment drive in government schools in Landi Kotal and Jamrud tehsils, as the teaching staff refused to facilitate new admissions and almost 11 lac students are affecting due to this situation and no one is there to take a step for them. The Fata general secretary, Mr. Naseer Shah Afridi told that although all the schools remained closed as teacher’s boycotted classes and refrained from accepting new admission forms. Mr Afridi said that their colleagues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been upgraded in 2012 under a policy announced by the then provincial government but Fata Secretariat was denying the same right to teachers in tribal areas. Fata teachers will continue their protest till the acceptance of their demand of upgrading their pay scale by the government.
