Grand Jirga on education in Bahrain

Kalaam:  The Institute for Education & Development and Alif Ailaan held a campaign for education last year, under which research was carried out in different union councils of Swat Kohistan. Another grand Jirga was carried out at Bahrain valley, on the same pattern. No facilities in schools of Jamrud, students’ future at risk

Jamrud: Many schools in Jamrud, including Haji Nadar Khan Girls Primary school and Syed Kabeer Boys School, are in the worst condition. There are no facilities in schools – these schools lack furniture, fans, drinking water, toilets and doors of rooms. Moreover, those appointed in schools are also not honest and sincere to their duties. These views were expressed by local people, who said that there are no facilities for students in these schools due to which students’ future seems dark. Government wants to destroy the education system in the province

Mardan: The district president of Private Schools Management Association Naseer Afridi said that private education institutes are the backbone of the education department, especially in Mardan, but the government wants to destroy the education system in the province. Many buildings awaiting reconstruction for years after 2005 earthquake

Peshawar: The Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority has been criticized for reconstructing less than two thirds of the destroyed buildings and houses in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, even on the 11th anniversary of the tragedy being marked today. The ERRA has miserably failed to reconstruct most of the facilities damaged in the earthquake even on the 11th anniversary of the tragedy. Survivors continue to live in small makeshift shelters in Balakot, while majority of schools and health facilities have ruined buildings as they’d 11 years ago. In the education sector, 2,425 school buildings were destroyed and only 1,612 of them have been rebuilt due to which many students are getting education in the open air.
